The Framed Word

Scenes from Scripture, framed

The Word on your wall, not just words

The Framed Word is biblical scene art by Trevor Stuckless, made in Hamilton, Ontario, printed at 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 inches and framed by hand. He made the first pieces for his own prayer wall, wanting to look up and be brought into the depth of a scene at a glance. Every piece carries the passage it pictures on its placard, and every passage links to the full text.

Hanging now: Amongst the Lampstands, one road walked at three ages, a storm crossed on foot, a crown of thorns. Scenes, not slogans.

A robed figure walking a broken road between seven golden lampstands, light burning from his hand, an immense face with eyes like flame filling the sky above

What is hanging now?

Most Christian wall art prints the words of a verse. These picture the moment the words describe, as the maker reads it, and say so. Every piece is $29.99 CAD framed, or any three for $74.99. Three of the singles are below; the triptych and the rest are on the collection page.

A small robed figure far off in near darkness, walking toward a low row of lit lampstands with light burning in his hand, dust hanging in the air, and the words “Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me” set in small capitals above

What sizes do the prints come in?

Every piece is printed at one of two sizes and arrives framed. Wide scenes hang their size turned sideways. Both are standard North American frame sizes, so any piece can be re-matted or re-framed years later without custom work.

The two print sizes, and where each belongs
Size Reads best from Where it belongs
8.5 × 11 in Arm's length to a few feet A desk wall, a hallway pair, a bookshelf lean, beside a mirror
11 × 17 in Across a room Over a desk or dresser, an office wall, the anchor of a grouping

Before you hang anything

Is it right to hang images of Bible scenes at all?

A fair question, and the one a shop like this owes an answer to rather than a slogan.

Common questions

How do I buy a piece?

Email [email protected] naming the pieces you want. A single piece is $29.99 CAD framed and any three are $74.99. You will get a reply confirming stock and whether collection around Hamilton or Niagara or delivery suits you better. There is no cart on the site yet, so nothing is charged until it has been quoted to you.

What exactly is a "biblical scene", as opposed to verse art?

Verse art prints the words: a passage set in lettering. Scene art pictures the moment the words describe. Look at Walking on the Sea and you are at the waterline behind bare feet in a storm, not reading Matthew 14 in a nice font. Both hang on Christian walls; this studio makes the second kind. Why that is faithful work is argued out in the guide on images.

Is this art for men or for women?

Both. No piece is assigned an audience. The collection runs from the burning eyes of Revelation 1 to a child walking a morning road with a lion, and if a scene speaks to you it belongs on your wall, whichever wall that is.

Do the pieces come framed, or just the print?

Framed, and the $29.99 includes the frame. Each print fills a black frame edge to edge, in one of the two sizes, and hangs the way it is shown here. If you want a print without the frame, ask and it can be quoted. The same scenes are also cut as bookmarks.

Where is this made?

Hamilton, Ontario. The Framed Word is a Blue Crane Works property and a sibling of the Sons of Scripture men's ministry, which gathers weekly in Hamilton and Grimsby.

Are new pieces still being made?

Yes. What is on the collection page is what is finished and on the wall today, and it grows. If you are after a particular scene and do not see it, say so in an email; it may already exist or be worth making.
